LOVING EARTH

About the pottery

In my pottery, I work primarily on the wheel, though it seems that I am working more and more with slab construction.  I  enjoy the process of forming the piece.  I love the feel of soft clay and how it  comes alive in my hands and rests finally in a shape that speaks to my sense of balance and functionality.  I love to experiment and feel torn at times between repeating shapes and styles and trying something new.
In my studio, I fire to cone 6 (2190 degrees Farenheit) and use 3 different stoneware clay bodies, a smooth white, a speckled tan and a dark brown. I like the way the clay body interacts with the different glazes I use.  In general, the palette I use for my finished pieces mirror my love of nature, reflecting the tones on the earth, sky, foliage and waters. I love greens, blues, browns and ochre.
