I have always enjoyed designing and creating functional objects for everyday use. Initially I worked with cloth and fiber. My dad had studied to be a tailor and taught me to sew when I was 10. I made many of my own clothes during my teenage years. I also taught myself to knit, crochet and weave. Ever since I can remember, I have always had some sort of sewing or fiber project in progress. When I reflect on my sewn work, I feel the influence of my father in my desire to construct items well and my attention to detail.

My roots in clay also trace to my childhood. I have loved the feel of soft, moist earth since I was a little girl making mud pies. My first experience with making pottery was when I was in my early twenties. I took a class at a studio in Manhattan. I felt so at home sitting at the wheel, feeling the clay take shape in my hands. I wasn't very good at it but it whet my appetite. I knew I wanted to study this medium further. It wasn't until I had become a part time resident of the Catskills that I was finally able to work extensively with clay during summer vacations. I studied at the Woodstock Artists' Guild's Byrdcliffe Studio summers from 1998 through 2002. During that time I set up a studio at my home. I became a full time resident of the Catskills in 2002 and  opened "Loving Earth Studio" during the summer of 2003.  I currently sell my ceramic work and sewn goods at local stores and craft fairs (see calendar of shows).

As an artisan whose greatest pleasure comes from infusing beauty, spirit and energy into everyday objects, I am gratified to know that my work will be used and enjoyed by others. Whether I am working with clay or cloth, it is my hope that my work is a reflection of my enjoyment of the process of creating.
